Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) -Mission Statement
The Parish of Holy Spirit Religious Education Program (PREP).
It is a Roman Catholic Program, which serves the local parish
community, and is one of the approved programs within the
Archdiocese of Vancouver. This is eight- year program and more than
likely go into a high school program next year. No grades can be
missed! Each grade must be completed before the Sacrament
of Confirmation will be administered.
The Program (Faith & Life) aims to teach the children in
accordance with the rites, practices and doctrines of the Roman
Catholic Church and at the same time develop a respect for the
beliefs of others.
We aim to enable every child to understand him/herself, the family,
the community and the wider world in an atmosphere pervaded by
Gospel values and the message of Jesus Christ.
We aim to help every child fulfil their potential by offering them a
broadly based and balanced curriculum in Catholic Religious
Education and to help them become independent learners thus
preparing them for the responsibilities of becoming teenagers and
young adults, in a very secular world
We aim to promote excellence through working co-operatively with
parents to provide a happy, caring and structured environment where
children can grow in God's love.
Partnership with Parents
We aim to provide the best possible education for the children in
the PREP Program. In order to achieve this we believe
parents, the first teachers of the faith, along with the PREP
teachers and the Church should work as partners. The parish
strives to reach the highest standards in all that it does and
expects children to work properly and parents to support the PREP
Program in maintaining high standards of discipline. We welcome
the involvement of parents in our PREP Program by going
through each lesson before and afterwards with your child.
Parents are encouraged to offer any spare time they have to
help in the program by: hearing reading, helping with
interpretation, accompanying children to the classroom, and by
helping with practical classroom required activities when required.
Sacramental Life
You will be expected to bring you child
or children to monthly confession at the scheduled parish time, the
Sunday liturgy must be celebrated in the parish of the Holy
Spirit.
First Confession & First Holy Communion
The dates for these two Sacraments will be given to you during the
year. If a child has not attained a proper understanding of the
Sacraments then they will be held back until they have attained that
knowledge, therefore, the parents must take the responsibility and
help their child with the required prayers as well helping their
child understand the importance of the Sacraments in their lives.
Non-attendance due to illness
Parents should notify the Parish Office with a telephone call if
their child is going to be absent. When the child returns to PREP,
parents should send a note confirming the telephone call and the
reason for the absence also that they have gone over the
lesson missed. Pupils must be encouraged at all times to be
punctual. Lateness disrupts not only your child's learning, but also
the rest of the class. Children who are late should be accompanied
into the classroom/parish building by their parent.
Class begins at 6.30 p.m. prompt. All children should be picked up
from their classroom at 7.45 p.m.
Change of address
Please make sure we have your current address and emergency contact
telephone number. The Parish must be kept informed if there are any
changes.
Holiday's
Apart from the Christmas, Easter and Spring Break no other holidays
should be scheduled during the School year. Our school year begins
September 5 th,and ends at the last Wednesday
of May. Please do not schedule family holidays during
this time; we have limited time in classroom preparation for the
Sacramental program already.
